Understanding the Need for Hearing Aid Fittings

Hearing loss can be a life-altering experience. The inability to comprehend the world of sounds can lead to communication barriers and social isolation. At Family Hearing Centers, we aim to bridge this gap with our comprehensive hearing aid fittings service. The process involves meticulously selecting, fitting, and programming a hearing aid that amplifies sounds to the user's comfort level, thereby improving overall hearing capabilities.

Diagnosis Confirmation

The hearing aid fitting journey begins with a thorough assessment of the patient's hearing abilities. Our audiologists conduct an exhaustive hearing test to measure the softest sound the patient can hear at different pitches. This evaluation helps determine the patient's hearing loss profile and sets the foundation for the next steps in their hearing rehabilitation journey.

Hearing Aid Selection

As a patient-centric practice, we believe in involving our patients in the decision-making process. Our audiologists thoroughly discuss the various hearing aid options that best suit the patient's needs. We offer a diverse range of hearing aids, including In-the-Ear (ITE), Behind-the-Ear (BTE), Mini BTE, In-the-Canal (ITC), Completely in Canal (CIC), and Invisible in Canal (IIC) devices. Our experts guide the patients in making an informed choice that aligns with their lifestyle, preferences, and degree of hearing loss.

The Fitting Appointment

The hearing aid fitting appointment is a crucial step in a patient's journey towards improved hearing. It's during this session that the hearing aid is physically fitted and electronically programmed to match the patient's hearing profile.

Earmold Fitting

The fitting process starts with our audiologists ensuring that the earmold or earpiece of the hearing aid fits comfortably in the patient's ear. This step is essential for in-canal and in-ear hearing aids, which require accurate measurements for an optimal fit.

Hearing Aid Programming

The next step involves programming the hearing aid to enhance the patient's hearing capabilities. Our audiologists use state-of-the-art software to fine-tune the hearing aid according to the patient's specific hearing loss profile. The aim is to amplify soft sounds to an audible level and compress louder sounds to a comfortable level.

Real Ear Measures

As part of the programming process, we conduct real ear measures. This involves placing a thin tube in the ear, connected to a microphone, to measure the volume of sound near the eardrum. The audiologist then adjusts the output of the hearing aid based on these measurements and the patient's feedback. This step ensures that the device is providing the correct amount of amplification in accordance with the severity of the hearing loss.

Post-Fitting Guidance

At Family Hearing Centers, we believe in empowering our patients with the right knowledge and skills to handle their hearing aids effectively. Post the fitting process, our audiologists dedicate ample time to educate the patients about the use and maintenance of their hearing aids.

Device Demonstration

Our audiologists demonstrate how to operate the hearing aids, including how to adjust the volume, switch between different programs, insert and remove the device, and clean and maintain it. We also provide information on how to change or recharge batteries (depending on the type of device chosen).

Usage Schedule

We understand that new hearing aid users may require time to adapt to the device. To facilitate a smooth transition, our audiologists design a phased usage schedule, starting with few hours a day in quiet environments and gradually increasing the duration and introducing noisier settings.

Follow-up Appointments

Our commitment to our patients doesn't end with the fitting appointment. We schedule follow-up sessions to check the patient's comfort and make necessary adjustments to the hearing aids. We also encourage patients to reach out to us anytime for queries or concerns related to their hearing aids.
