Hearing Testing

Hearing testing is an important first step in helping you or your family member with communication problems. An estimated 28 million people in the United States have hearing loss. Hearing loss can have a significant negative impact on an individual when left untreated. In addition to causing obvious communication difficulty at home and work, studies have found that it causes irritability, stress, fatigue, depression, social isolation, impaired memory, reduced job and earning power, and poorer psychological and overall health, among other things. When indicated, hearing aids can and do improve all qualities of life, including those listed above.

Hearing Aids

Hearing Aids come in a variety of styles and price ranges. What is best for your friend or family member may not be what is needed for your hearing loss. Dr. Smith will discuss your options with you and guide you in choosing the proper aid for both your hearing loss and your budget.

Batteries

We offer a variety of hearing aid battery sizes, including 13, 312, 10 and 675. You will receive free batteries with the purchase of your hearing aids, for 1 to 3 years, depending on which hearing aids you purchase.

Vestibular testing and treatment for dizziness

Dizziness is the third most common reason for physician office visits, following headache and back pain. At Maze Hearing and Balance we work with your referring physician and Physical Therapy department of your choice to help determine the cause of your inner ear dizziness and to treat it.

Tinnitus

Tinnitus refers to ringing or other noises in your ears. An estimated 10% or 15% of Americans suffer from constant tinnitus. Most of these individuals do not seek help for tinnitus, as they believe there is no relief. About half of tinnitus sufferers are not bothered by it, however the other half say that their tinnitus significantly affects various areas of their life, including sleep, communication and concentration. Approximately 1% note that the tinnitus impacts their life so much that it affects their ability to function on a day to day basis. Simply understanding tinnitus and how it occurs can help most people reduce their anxiety about it. Because the majority of individuals suffering from tinnitus also have hearing loss, hearing aids are often the first step in reducing awareness of tinnitus.

For those in whom hearing aids are not enough, Dr. Smith offers the Neuromonics tinnitus device and combination tinnitus/hearing aid devices. [ Read More about Tinnitus ]

Custom hearing protection

For those who can not tolerate disposable foam earplugs or head-worn earmuffs, we offer custom hearing protection in a variety of styles. If you are wearing hearing protection that is not properly fitted this lowers their ability to protect your hearing. On the other hand, over-attenuation of sounds can prevent you from hearing warning signals and understanding the speech of others. We can help you choose the proper custom earplug for your environment.

Earplugs for musicians, construction and motor sports, pilots and shooting guns are also available.
